Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4.32
Amid the covid restrictions of 2021, many Lightwave groups took part in “40 days of kindness” for Lent. It was inspirational to see individuals and small groups finding small ways to show appreciation to others and to overcome the isolation which was being experienced by many.
St Therese of Liseux in her “Little Way” reminds us that the path of being close to God is accessible to everyone, regardless of circumstances because greatness is God’s eyes is not to do with grand gestures but in small everyday acts of loving kindness. A smile, a gentle word or a silent prayer can have eternal significance when done with love. Frustrations can become opportunities to practice kindness and grow closer to God whose kindness knows no bounds.
In a missional small group, the practice of kindness can be transformative. It softens hearts, builds bridges and brings comfort. It is a quiet but powerful witness to the love of God as we seek to show His compassionate heart through our actions.
Lord help us to be kind today. Make our hearts tender and quick to forgive, always remembering that you have forgiven us first. Amen.
